Sri Lanka Suspends Online Visa Portal on Court Order

The Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka deactivated its online visa portal to act under the interim suspension order made by the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka on the 2nd of August, 2024, with immediate effect. The websites shall remain deactivated until further notice.

The High Commission for Sri Lanka has, therefore, reviewed the visa application process in regard to this development with tourists. Travelers can now access visas through both Sri Lankan diplomatic missions and at the port of entry on arrival. However, nationals of Afghanistan, Syria, Ghana, Nigeria, Pakistan, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, North Korea, and Myanmar do not have the provision for on-arrival visas. They have to apply for visas through a local sponsor at the Head Office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

The rate of visa fees for tourists remains the same. Nationals from China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan, who used to get free visas, will still get the visas on arrival for free.
