Paris Olympics Fan Out Surge in Travel Interest
The current travel booking platform—Agoda—shows a sharp 43% rise in searches for accommodation in Paris during late July and early August as the highly-anticipated Paris Olympics and Paralympic Games occur. As per the survey, Japan is the most searched Asian country, followed by South Korea and Hong Kong SAR.
Agoda has witnessed a dramatic increase in searches to Paris—the ‘city of love’ turning into the ‘city of sports’—as the opening of the Paris Olympics and Paralympics gets underway on 26 July. Based on Agoda accommodation search data in Asia, Japan came out on top, with South Korea and Hong Kong SAR second and third, respectively. Rounding out the top five were Mainland China and India.
This surge in interest can be attributed to Paris hosting the world’s largest sporting event later this month, which created a stir among Asian travellers. Accommodation searches on Agoda rose because many would have liked to witness this global spectacle personally.
“The forthcoming events in Paris raise a whole lot of traveller excitement; we weren’t surprised to notice that this uptick in interest comes out of Asian markets. Agoda is committed to helping travellers find the best accommodations, flights, and activities to make their trip to Paris truly unforgettable,” says Andrew Smith, Senior Vice President, Supply at Agoda.
