New Appointment of Edward Kwek at Tourism Australia
Tourism Australia has announced the appointment of Edward Kwek as its new Senior Business Events Manager for South and South East Asia. Based in Singapore, he will report to Regional Business Events Director for Asia, Edea Lu. As part of his role, he will support strategies for business event distribution and partnerships with the local MICE stakeholder community in Southeast Asia. He will further engage key customers and other stakeholders through regional joint events and activities.
Edward brings 17 years of industry experience. Most recently, he held the position of Trade Manager Business Events with Tourism New Zealand, where he developed and implemented business event strategies for South-East Asia. Before that, he had been the Regional Director of Southeast Asia and India with the Melbourne Convention Bureau, further developing his industry expertise.
Lu, in turn, has welcomed Kwek’s appointment. According to her, South and South-East Asia are key markets for the country’s business events industry. Although these two regions have been showing remarkable recovery and growth, expenditure related to business events reached near-pre-pandemic levels in Australia from India and Singapore in the first quarter of 2024. The total contribution from South and South-East Asia markets came in at A$716 million for the quarter.
Kwek said he was thrilled to join Tourism Australia. He looks forward to working with incentive planners, Australian industry operators, and the convention bureaus to create memorable and impressive experiences for delegates and reinforce Australia’s positioning as a leading destination for corporate events. With his broad expertise and astute sense of strategic insight, he could make a difference in how business events are approached for Tourism Australia in the region.
