The Ministry of Tourism released the tourism statistics for May 2024, which showed growth in the sector. The Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in May 2024 were 600,000 compared to 598,000 in May 2023, recording a 0.3 per cent rise. FTAs during January-May 2024 were 4.072 million compared to 3.732 million in January-May 2023, growing by 9.1 per cent.

Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs) during May 2024 were of Rs. 17,762 crores as against Rs. 17,206 crores notched during May 2023, an increase of 3.23 per cent. During the first five months of 2024, FEEs were to the tune of Rs. 1,08,362 crores, which is substantially higher than the Rs. 88,441 crores recorded during the cumulative period.

These trends reflect a positive impact on the economic growth and development of the tourism sector in India, as both FTAs and FEEs are increasing steadily, which indicates a strong and growing industry. The Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, disclosed this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
